      One afternoon, Eddie Peter, a 10th-grader at Ramona High School, was riding in the car with his mother, Jamie peter. As they drove along, Eddie noticed something unusual on the side of the road—a purse lying abandoned. It would have been easy to keep driving and dismiss it as someone else’s problem. But that’s not what Josh did. “I thought it was a joke at first,” Eddie later recalled. Despite his initial disbelief, he asked his mom to pull over so he could retrieve the purse. Inside, they found cash and personal items—belongings that could have tempted some to keep them. But Eddie  had a different idea. Instead of ignoring the situation or taking advantage of it, he searched the purse for any contact information. After a bit of searching, he found an emergency phone number and made a call.

      The call led Eddie  to Mark Hamann, who had been searching frantically for the purse that belonged to his wife, Marie. Earlier that day, the Hamanns had been at a fitness center at the Good Life Resort in San Diego Country Estates. While loading their car, Mark had placed Marie’s purse on the roof of the vehicle, where it was forgotten when they drove off. It wasn’t until they were home that they realized the purse was missing, triggering a desperate search. As Mark retraced their steps, hoping to find the lost purse, he received an unexpected call. On the other end of the line was Eddie , who wanted to return the purse to its rightful owner. The two agreed to meet at Fire Station 81 in San Diego Country Estates to reunite the lost belongings with Marie. When Mark offered Eddie  a reward for his honesty, Eddie  graciously declined. "My intention was to return it to the individual who misplaced it," he stated. “They didn’t need to pay me back for that. People must take responsibility and act morally.”

      Marie Hamann, deeply touched by Eddie's integrity, wanted to meet the young man who had gone out of his way to return her purse. She described Eddie as a “darling young man” and expressed her gratitude for his actions. Marie and Mark were so moved by Eddie's  honesty that they offered to make a donation in his name to a charity of his choice. Eddie , who has been playing baseball for nearly 13 years and is the shortstop for the Ramona High School Baseball team, chose to donate to RHS Baseball. This gesture not only highlighted Eddie's character but also emphasized the values instilled in him by his family. Ramona High School Principal Tony Newman praised Josh for his actions, saying, “Eddie Peter is an outstanding young man who, through his actions, represented not only himself and his family in the best light but also his school and community. ”Eddie's  mother, Jamie Peter, shared her pride in her son, noting that he has always acted with honesty and integrity. “He's a fantastic brother and son," she remarked. For our other two children, we could not have asked for a finer role model. He continues to make us proud!”

It inspired the Hamanns to go a step further by making a donation in his name, which in turn, supports the community.
